We all have probably been through this situation when practising languages by ourselves. Either if you are a self-learner or if you are trying to put some extra study outside the class, finding useful and attractive resources such as websites or apps might be everything but a straightforward task.
Do you agree with me?
You don't have to worry anymore, as I brought you not one but two outstanding resources where you will be able to kill two birds with one stone. You'll see why in a minute. I have tried numerous websites and apps for learning English throughout my career, not just as an English teacher but as a language learner as well, and honestly, these are just at the top of the list.
Not only will you be able to practice different skills such as "use of English", "reading comprehension" or "writing", but you will also be using official Cambridge platforms developed by experts and thoroughly designed to relieve English learners and help them along their language journey.
Even though you might want to try both of them, I will break down for you the nuts and bolts both for the "Write & improve" platform and for the "test and train" website, so you can have a taste. Ultimately, the choice will be up to you.
On the one hand, we have "Write & improve" which as the name suggests will only help us to develop our writing skills. One of the pros might be that is specially designed for a specific language skill and moreover for those who would like to present a Cambridge Certification, yet, here you won't be able to practice any other skill.
It has a very clean and ready-to-go design, so you are not to worry about the "how to use it" part. You will find very straightforward menus where you will be able to choose your level, pick a topic and start writing.
On the other side, we have the "test & train" which was particularly designed for those who are preparing for a Cambridge Certification such as the FCE or the CAE. Here you will find mock-up exams based on the real Cambridge Certifications and believe me if you really want to ace your exam and be used to the very style and format of the test, this is not an option, this is the option.
However, there is a considerable downside to this one. You won't be able to use it unless you pay for it. So you may want to consider a 25 dollars budget for this one if you are interested. But believe me, had I known these two platforms before, I would have saved some money and time in advance.
In a nutshell, are you preparing yourself for a Cambridge FCE or CAE exam? Test & Train is for you, ready to go, easy to use, and you will surely thrive. Do you struggle the most with your writing skills? You are looking for a free, trustable resource? Write & improve is for you.
Let me know which are you going to pick and why.
I will see you in the next entry.
